How to Import from Turkey to the USA: A Practical Guide for Buyers

To import from Turkey to the USA, you need the right HTS codes, a customs bond, an ISF filing for ocean freight and, in practice, a licensed customs broker to file the entry. KOG Group handles the Turkish side, from supplier selection to export shipment, and coordinates with your broker through to final delivery.

What do you need to import from Turkey to the USA?

Importing commercial goods into the USA involves a few fixed elements. The importer of record is responsible for correct classification, value and origin, and most importers appoint a licensed customs broker to file the entry with US Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

  • HTS classification for each product, which determines the duty rate
  • A licensed customs broker to prepare and file the entry
  • A customs bond, single-entry or continuous
  • An Importer Security Filing (ISF, also called 10+2) for ocean freight
  • Commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading
  • Country of origin marking on the goods or their packaging

How are duties and tariffs on Turkish goods calculated?

Duty is set by the product's HTS code and its customs value. US tariff policy changed several times during 2025 and 2026, including additional duties on certain countries and product groups, so a rate that applied to an earlier order may no longer be correct.

We do not quote duty rates from memory. Before each order, the applicable rate should be checked on the official USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule and current CBP guidance, and confirmed by your customs broker. We build that check into the commercial evaluation we prepare for you.

Which US product rules apply to furniture, lighting and building materials?

Beyond customs, products must meet US market requirements, which differ from European ones.

  • Lighting and electrical products: a listing from a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory, such as UL or ETL
  • Composite wood in furniture (MDF, particleboard, hardwood plywood): TSCA Title VI certification and labelling
  • Wood products: a Lacey Act plant product declaration, depending on the HTS code
  • Upholstered furniture: flammability requirements such as California TB 117-2013, plus any contract fire codes
  • Building products: local building codes and project approvals

How does KOG support US importers?

We act as your sourcing partner in Turkey. Our team uses AI tools to match suppliers and benchmark prices, and our procurement specialists vet manufacturers, negotiate, follow production, inspect before shipment and coordinate export logistics. Your customs broker handles US entry, and we make sure the supplier's invoices, packing lists and ISF data reach them complete and on time.

Incoterms 2020 define who arranges what. With FOB or FCA, you control ocean freight and US clearance. If you prefer delivery to your door, we discuss options per project and confirm in writing who acts as importer of record.

FAQ

Import to the USA: common questions

Do I need a customs broker to import from Turkey?

It is not strictly required, but most commercial importers use a licensed customs broker, because classification, valuation and filing errors can lead to penalties or delays. A broker files the entry electronically with CBP and can also arrange your customs bond.

What is ISF 10+2 and who files it?

The Importer Security Filing is a set of shipment data that must reach CBP at least 24 hours before ocean cargo is loaded on the vessel abroad. The importer is responsible for it, and the customs broker usually files it. We make sure the supplier's data reaches your broker in time.

What is the US import duty on products from Turkey?

It depends on the HTS code of each product and on the tariff measures in force on the date of entry. Because US tariffs changed repeatedly in 2025 and 2026, we do not publish rates. Check the current rate on the official USITC HTS and CBP sources and confirm it with your broker before placing an order.

Is CE marking enough for products sold in the USA?

No. CE marking is a European requirement. In the USA, electrical products are normally expected to carry an NRTL listing such as UL or ETL, composite wood products need TSCA Title VI certification, and other rules may apply by product and by state. We check these points with the manufacturer before you order.

Which Incoterms should a US buyer use with Turkish suppliers?

Many US buyers purchase FOB or FCA and use their own forwarder, which keeps control of ocean freight and US clearance. Others prefer delivered terms. Each Incoterms 2020 rule transfers cost and risk at a different point, so we agree the rule per project and check that it fits your insurance and broker setup.
